Elisa Omodei has been interviewed for CEU Science Shop (pp. 16-17) on collaborating with Flüchtlinge Wilkommen (FlüWi – Refugees Welcome Austria) on a course project in "Advanced Topics in Applied Statistics".
The details of the project can be found on p. 19.
The OSUN Science Shop engages citizens and civil society organizations in education and research related collaborations, by taking in their questions/requests, and transforming them into course assignments, internships, thesis work or research projects on the university.
Such collaborations serve the community as well as higher education purposes, and create opportunities for mutual learning. As an intermediary and facilitator, Science Shop actively seeks partnership, offer coordination and support when necessary to balance the different knowledges, perspectives and interests.
In Elisa's course project, the community partner was Flüchtlinge Wilkommen (FlüWi), an independent organization focusing on finding new homes for refugees in private accommodation: in flat shares or with families who offer a free room. FlüWi requested having its vast data set analyzed with the support of CEU students. The data set consisted of thousands of host offers and refugee accommodation requests the organization had received between January 2015 and October 2022. Two students took the analysis and the interpretation of the findings on as a course project.
