Members of the Department of Network and Data Science (DNDS) at CEU made a remarkable showing at NetSci 2025, the flagship international conference on Network Science held this year in Maastricht.
With over 20 presentations by current DNDS faculty, postdocs, and students across various satellite meetings and parallel sessions, the department’s presence reflected the breadth and depth of ongoing research. In addition, more than 20 contributions were presented by past members and alumni, underlining the continuing impact of DNDS within the broader network science community.
Celebrating Achievements
Several individual distinctions made the DNDS presence even more memorable:
Nelson Aloysio, a former visiting researcher at DNDS, received the Best Lightning Talk Award, showcasing the quality and clarity of his research communication.
Federico Battiston, Associate Professor at DNDS, received the prestigious Erdős–Rényi Prize for “seminal work on emergent collective behavior in higher-order networks and interdisciplinary applications of network science, in particular, to describe social phenomena.”
János Kertész, Professor and founding figure of DNDS, was elected a Fellow of the NetSci Society. He was recognized “for contributions to the fundamental understanding of the weighted structure and dynamics of complex networks and for pioneering work in economic networks.”
A Departmental Milestone
The conference also served as a reunion and group celebration, with a large cohort of DNDS researchers attending. A group photo was taken to mark the occasion—bringing together more than 25 members and friends of the department, past and present.
