Post-Doctoral Research Fellow: Social Network Data Analysis and Modelling

The Department of Network and Data Science at Central European University Vienna is hiring a postdoctoral research fellow for the European project "Socially Explainable Artificial Intelligence" (SAI), carried out by an international consortium. The aim of the project is to investigate and develop distributed AI solutions for social systems.

The special task at CEU DNDS is to explore and model networks within human - AI ecosystems, their structure and dynamics, including issues of distributed information sharing, problems of trust, and emergent phenomena such as polarization and echo chambers or the spreading of fake news. The project is planned to be carried out in close collaboration with partners, esp. in Italy and Estonia. Faculty members involved are Gerardo Iñiguez, Márton Karsai and János Kertész.

The candidate is expected to have a PhD in physics, computer science, network science or computational social science and have experience with data driven research on social networks and with some applied machine learning.

The Department of Network and Data Science invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the area of Machine Learning and Data Science at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The Department of Network and Data Science at the Central European University carries out research with focus both on the foundations of network science and on data-driven applications. The department offers a PhD program in Network Science, the only program of this kind in Europe with fully funded scholarships each year, which attracts students from all over the world. In addition, the department will host a bachelor's program on Quantitative Social Sciences from the Fall Term in 2021 and is planning to launch a master's program in Computational Social Science in 2022. Qualifications:
We expect applications from computer scientists, or researchers in related fields, with an excellent publication record. The applicant should be an expert in applied machine learning methods, and preferably have experience with social or behavioral data and/or research at the interface between machine learning and network science. The candidates should have a strong motivation to conduct interdisciplinary research and be interested in participating in projects with other departments at CEU. Capability of high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching is assumed.

Candidates should have a doctorate in computer science or a related discipline.
